What is a Specialist in Orthodontics?
An orthodontic specialist must first receive his or her doctorate in general dentistry, the
same as your family dentist.  They must then complete an additional 2 or 3 years of
graduate work in the specialty of orthodontics.  As a specialist, an orthodontist is required
to limit the practice exclusively to orthodontics.  If the dental provider is practicing
general dentistry and providing orthodontic services, he/she is not a qualified specialist in
orthodontics.
Do you need an orthodontist and a dentist?
Yes!  Orthodontic Specialists, like Dr. Duong, only do orthodontic work.  That means that
it's important to see your dentist every 6 months or more for cleanings and exams.
Your dentist and Dr. Duong work together, as a team, to give you the best expertise in
both areas of your dental health.
