Traditional Orthodontic Treatment for Reliable Results
Braces are an economical, durable, and time-tested method for straightening teeth and improving oral function. This treatment option can address orthodontic conditions affecting the teeth and jaw.
For all of these reasons, they make a great choice for kids.
Most kids requiring orthodontic treatment to fix misaligned teeth or jaws begin using braces between the ages of 11 and 13 once all their permanent teeth have come in.
In rare cases, children as young as seven might be candidates for braces. We only use braces on kids with baby teeth when necessary to create space for adult teeth to erupt in the correct positions, correct crossbites, or address functional issues.
Consultations & Monitoring for Children
Children should visit the orthodontist for the first time around the age of seven for an orthodontic consultation.
If we determine that orthodontic treatment is necessary, we will begin a treatment plan. If not, we provide free assessment appointments every six to 12 months until your child is ready for comprehensive orthodontic care.
The Benefits of Braces for Kids
Your child's disposition and specific orthodontic condition will influence our orthodontic treatment recommendation for braces or clear aligners.
Efficiency
Certain types of teeth and jaw misalignments are more effectively treated with braces, as they can move teeth more quickly.
Compliance to Treatment
Unlike clear aligners, braces are attached to the teeth and cannot be removed. This can benefit children who may not be mature or patient enough to wear their aligners as instructed. Fixed braces can't be misplaced, and their durability makes them hard to damage – all potential advantages for kids!
Esthetics
While traditional metal braces don't have the discreet appearance of clear aligners, they are customizable.
Colored elastics can be added and changed throughout treatment, meaning your child can choose fun colors based on their mood, the seasons, or even their favorite sports teams!
Types of Braces at Duong Orthodontics
Our office offers two types of braces to help meet children's practical needs and esthetic preferences.
Traditional braces use metal wires and brackets, which can be customized with colorful elastics. Translucent braces are similar but use tooth-colored ceramic brackets that blend with natural teeth.
